We're going to COP26!!!
We are excited to announce that PPL PWR, alongside student activists from the UK School Sustainability Network (UKSSN) and volunteers from UCell, will be heading to the Glasgow Science Centre next month to attend COP26 — the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference held from 1-12th November.
Amongst many thousands of applications, our applications for a Pupil Power Roadshow and Sustainable Finance Panel were selected to exhibit in the civil society Green Zone at this historic climate conference. Over the past 7 months, PPL PWR volunteers have been working hard to put together an educational programme to engage and inform secondary school activists, and offer young people an international platform to propose practical solutions to the climate crisis.
As part of the Pupil Power Roadshow, PPL PWR will deliver training to more than 40 students on a range of sustainability topics in accordance with the COP26 agenda, such as hydrogen fuel cells, battery storage innovation, valuing our green spaces, and discussions around climate anxiety.
Exhibitions and practical demonstrations are in our DNA, we cannot wait to do them at COP26!
During the first week of November a diverse group of students from across the UK will travel to Glasgow to participate in the Pupil Power Roadshow exhibition (9.00 to 17.00 on Saturday 6th November - Glasgow Science Centre), and other events, including Transform Our World’s Youth Climate Summit, a week-long virtual festival that aims to galvanise students into positive environmental action.
Additionally, students will contribute questions to a sustainable finance panel held at 14:30 on Sunday 7th November at the Glasgow Science Centre (will also be live streamed). The panel, hosted by PPL PWR and the responsible investment charity ShareAction, will include various key stakeholders (industry, charities, academia) and will allow the audience to explore how banking, personal savings, and pensions can be mobilised to strive for a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy.

At PPL PWR, we want to ensure the youth voice is central to this process. As, ultimately, enrichment through involvement in the environmental decision-making process will ensure young people are able to participate in securing a happier and healthier planet for all.
